The French Embassy in Kosovo proudly partnered with the Kosovo Institute for Intellectual Property (KsIIP), the Academy of Justice, and the Commercial Court to organize a specialized training session on Geographical Indications.

Judges ⚖️ and administrative staff came together to discuss the importance of defending both Kosovar and French regional know-how. This initiative represents a significant step toward:

⚖️ Enhancing the knowledge and skills of judges, equipping them to effectively enforce intellectual property rights and protect both local and international producers.
🛡️ Preserving traditions and respecting the hard work of local communities.
✅ Ensuring quality for customers, providing them with access to authentic, high-quality traditional products.

Geographical Indications are more than just a label; they are a testament to cultural heritage and economic empowerment. From the legal point of view, designations of origin are names or symbols that identify a product as originating from a specific geographical area where the specific qualities of the product are mainly influenced by the geographical environment of that area. These are intended to protect unique products that are linked to a specific place or region that, in addition to the geographical location, also include specific traditional production factors. To obtain such a designation, the product must have a strong and exclusive connection to the place of origin, not only in terms of quality but also in terms of traditions and production techniques.

Judges were trained on the best practices in line with the Kosovo Law No. 05/l-051 on geographical indications and designations of origin in Kosovo and EU acquis.

All partners, the Embassy of France, KsIIP, Justice Academy and Commercial Court onfirmed that this is the begining of the other upcoming series of trainings for judges in intellectual property rights.
