Prishtina, 15th of February 2018
At the meeting of the main stakeholders in charge of the Geographical Indications System in Kosovo, the Director of the Institute, Mr. Hoti, took part as the partner and the beneficiary of the support provided by the French Embassy in Kosovo.
Present at this meeting were representatives of: Ministry of Trade and Industry, Industrial Property Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Agency for Food and Veterinary, Sharri Cheese Association, French Embassy, European Union Office in Prishtina, Kosovo Institute of Intellectual Property,
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Faton Thaçi, stated that this meeting of the “Geographic Indication – Sharri Cheese” is a priority of the Ministry as it is a great example for the economic development of the Sharri Region as well as a role model to begin with other GIs in Kosovo.
Mr. Giuistiniani, the Head of Cooperation from the French Embassy shared the experience of France in Geographical Indications; confirmed commitments to continue to support the GI system in Kosovo; and also shared the information for the upcoming activities if and when Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development complete the legal framework related to the GIs.
Mr. Hoti from the Institute shared the possible follow ups from this meeting, which were confirmed by participants. As a result, a working group was established and a Mr. Hoti, representing KsIIP was assigned member along with 4 other members from main GI stakeholders.
This is another example on how the Kosovo Institute of Intellectual Property is assisting in strengthening the Intellectual Property Rights System in Kosovo.
